Ashton Kutcher has led celebrity tributes to actress Brittany Murphy, who died on Sunday at the age of 32.
In a message on his Twitter page, Kutcher, who once dated the star, said the world had “lost a little piece of sunshine”.
Murphy, who starred in the hit teen movie Clueless, collapsed at home in Los Angeles on Sunday morning and was pronounced dead in hospital.
A statement released on behalf of Murphy's family described her death as a “terrible tragedy”.
"She was just an absolute doll since she was born,” Murphy's father, Angelo Bertolott, added.
"Her personality was always outward. Everybody loved her - people that made movies with her, people on a cruise - they all loved her."
Singer Jessica Simpson also paid tribute to the star's "contagious" smile.
The actress's death comes just weeks after she left her role in the forthcoming indie film The Caller due to “creative differences”.
She is due to appear in Sylvester Stallone's film, The Expendables, which is released next year.
Funeral plans have yet to be announced.
