Blake Lively was merely a guest at the US premiere of Sherlock Holmes in New York last night.

But the Gossip Girl actress stole the show from the film's cast as she wore a strapless black lace dress on the red carpet.

The 22-year-old was joined at the event by her co-star Jessica Szhor, who was sporting a more casual look.

Stars from the film, including Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr, appeared alongside director Guy Ritchie at the Lincoln Center.

While Downey Jr was accompanied to the premiere by his wife, Susan, Ritchie brought his nine-year-old son Rocco.

Sherlock Holmes, which is Ritchie's first big Hollywood blockbuster, opens in the UK on December 26.
