Strictly Come Dancing star Ricky Whittle has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

The Hollyoaks actor was taken into custody following an incident in Liverpool City Centre early this morning.

A police spokeswoman told the BBC the incident altercation took place after a collision between a car and a male pedestrian.

Ricky Whittle was pictured at a Hollyoaks cast party in Liverpool last night.

Whittle is thought to have been partying with friends last night and had earlier been spotted outside Parr Street Studios.

The 29-year-old actor, who is due to be questioned later today, is currently favourite to win Strictly Come Dancing with his dance partner Natalie Lowe.

At present, it is not clear whether Whittle's arrest will prevent him from appearing on Saturday's programme.
