Robert Pattinson had time for his legions of fans during a visit to the Late Show With David Letterman last night.

The in-demand Twilight star stopped to sign autographs and pose for pictures with lucky members of the sizable crowd gathered outside the Ed Sullivan theatre in New York.

In his usual way, Rob looked bewildered by the frenzied reception he received from his screaming devotees.

Rob was also typically coy when quizzed about his rumoured romance with co-star Kristen Stewart during his interview with Letterman.

"You're actually dating," said the chat show host, referring to Kristen. "Am I right about that?"

"I've been so cryptically avoiding this question throughout the entire interview," Rob replied, giving nothing away.

Letterman seemed happy to let the matter go, responding with: "Oh, bite me. What do I care?"

Rob laughed and he wasn't pressed any further on the subject.

The British heartthrob is promoting vampire sequel New Moon, which hits cinemas on November 20.
