Twilight star Robert Pattinson has said he has no plans to try and live up to his role as vampire Edward Cullen.
The 23-year-old British actor's character has become a pin-up for a generation of teenagers since the first movie was released in 2008.
His heartthrob status has raised questions over how Pattinson will cope after completing the four-part vampire franchise.
But in an interview with TIME magazine, the actor vowed to continue making films the same way he always had.
“There's no living up to it. I think the major fear is just fighting too hard against it,” he said.
“Most people who have a downfall from a like situation is when they do try to fight, and fight and fight: I'm not this teeny bopper person, blah, blah, blah.”
“Even if a lot of people see me and the franchise as like that, I never have, at any point. But I don't feel the need to fight against it."
Pattinson added: “I've never tried to pander to any kind of audience. I've tried to make the films as intelligent and uncheesy as you could.
“And I've tried to make them the best they can be. I've never thought about it any other way. So I hope that pays off.”
Pattinson joined his Twilight saga co-stars on the red carpet last night at the premiere of the second film, New Moon, in Los Angeles.
The movie goes on general release from Friday.
