Kristen Stewart praised co-star Taylor Lautner at the premiere of The Twilight Saga: New Moon in Los Angeles on Monday.

The 19-year-old actress said she was “so proud” of Lautner, 17, who had to put on 30lbs in weight to play werewolf Jacob Black in the new film.

"Everybody thinks we have a sister/ little brother dynamic going on, and I definitely fought for him,” she told MTV.

“I was totally on his side the entire time.”

Stewart, who plays schoolgirl Bella Swan, also paid tribute to the impact that Lautner had had on her. 

“He's taught me more than I've ever been able to bestow on him,” she said. “I think he's the most centered of everybody here.”

The entire cast of New Moon greeted Twilight fans on the red carpet outside Mann Village and Bruin Theatres last night.

The movie, which is the second installment of the vampire franchise, goes on general release in cinemas from Friday.
