Chris Brown says he has deliberately tried to avoid dating other women since his split from former girlfriend Rihanna earlier this year.

The pair broke up shortly after Brown assaulted Rihanna during an altercation in Los Angeles in February.

In an interview with MTV, the 21-year-old singer said he decided to focus on his work rather than begin a new relationship.

"My whole dating thing, I've been kinda chillin'," he told MTV News.

"I mean, I'm Chris Brown. I'm not saying it like that, but it's just, like, girls are gonna be around. I love women.

“But I would say I've just been chillin'. I haven't really been trying to get into a relationship or trying to date anybody.

He added: “I've just kinda been working on me. Like I said, just really getting me straight."

Brown was given five years' probation and ordered to do community labour for attacking Rihanna.

The singer is currently promoting his new album, Graffiti, which is released later this month.
