Parents have called for next week's episode of Gossip Girl to be pulled amid reports it is set to include a threesome.

The possible plot, which is understood to include three prominent cast members, was outlined in an advance preview of Monday's show.

Tim Winter, president of the Parents Television Council, told Us magazine the threesome storyline was "reckless and irresponsible”,

"Will you now be complicit in establishing a precedent and expectation that teenagers should engage in behaviors heretofore associated primarily with adult films?" Winter said.

He added that it had been "expressly targeted to impressionable teenagers”, which make up the majority of the show's audience.

Penn Badgely, who plays Dan Humphrey on the show, appeared to confirm the plotline during a recent interview with MTV.

Discussing Lady GaGa's forthcoming cameo on the show, he said: “There is a threesome and there is Lady Gaga, so you gotta keep watching."

The controversial plot comes just weeks after Gossip Girl aired its first gay kiss, featuring actor Ed Westwick, who plays Chuck Bass.
