Rihanna has revealed that she didn't speak to anyone about her altercation with Chris Brown for eight months.
The singer was assaulted by Brown on the eve of the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles in February.
In an interview with the Daily Mirror, Rihanna admitted she struggled to come to terms with the attack because people kept talking about it.
"It really got to me that was all people wanted to talk about,” she said.
“There wasn't a single day when I wasn't followed by people wanting a piece of me.
"Then there was all the talk and gossip on the internet and it wasn't anything I could control or avoid.”
The singer, who is currently promoting her new album Rated R, said she hoped she could now turn people's attention back to her music.
"I was in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Whereas once it was about my music, now all the attention was focused on what happened to me,” she said.
"But then with any big life experience, it makes you more resilient."
