Twilight star Robert Pattinson has said he has no idea how he is supposed to please fans of the film.

The 23-year teenage heartthrob has collected an army of devout female followers as a result of his role as vampire Edward Cullen.

But in an interview with Fabulous magazine, Pattinson claimed he struggled to grasp what fans wanted of him.

He said: "All the screaming is so bizarre. It's a scream of wanting, but I have absolutely no idea what they want. How can I satisfy that?

“When there are girls standing there trembling and crying, that's a very strange thing to be a part of."

Hundreds of fans queued for hours to meet Pattinson as he flew into Japan on Sunday to begin promotion for The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

The second film in the vampire franchise is due to be released worldwide on November 20.
