Robert Pattinson doesn't understand the attraction of vampires despite being catapulted to heartthrob status by his role as bloodsucker Edward Cullen in Twilight.

"People always ask if I’m a vampire fan and I don’t really know what to say," he admits.

"I’ve since found out there’s a sub-culture of people who like any film or book to do with vampires, no matter how they’re portrayed. I find that strange."

So it's no surprise he finds some of the bizarre requests he gets from fans a little disturbing.

He adds to the Daily Telegraph: "A seven-year-old came up and asked me to bite her – and she was serious.

"I thought, you don’t know what you’re asking. That was very odd."

Rob is likely to meet many more "strange" vampire fans over the coming weeks as he travels around the world in support of New Moon, which is released on November 20.

Then it's back home to Britain for Christmas for the homesick star.

"I miss London quite chronically at the moment," he says.
