John Mayer has spoken about Miley Cyrus's decision to quit Twitter.

The Hannah Montana star left the micro-blogging website earlier this month, claiming she wanted to regain her “private life”.

“How can I whine about my life being to public if I am the one telling the world what I am doing?” the 16-year-old said.

Mayer, who is a regular Twitter user, said he could understand Cyrus's reason for leaving the website.

"She's smart enough to realise there is some interference of the brain that she doesn't want to deal with," he told MTV.

"I think if you're in Miley's situation, it might take a little too much time to play goalie for your own heart and mind."

Meanwhile, Cyrus filmed a cameo role for Sex and the City 2 in New York over the weekend.
