Avril Lavigne has filed for divorce from husband of three years Deryck Whibley.

The singer cites "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split, and gives the date of separation as September 4.

The papers - filed in Los Angeles - also reveal that Avril is not asking the Sum 41 star for spousal support.

Avril confirmed the split on her blog last month, when she insisted the pair are "moving forward on a positive note."
