Peter Andre has revealed he expected the public to turn against him following his split from wife Katie Price.
The couple announced their shock separation in May and eventually divorced in September.
Despite Price's huge fan base, the public has largely sided with Andre, who successfully relaunched his music career in the summer.
In an interview with New! magazine, Andre said he initially thought his decision to leave his wife would have a negative impact on him.
“I walked out, so I expected everyone to turn on me,” he said.
“I said to my manager that leaving her might be the end of my career, but I was prepared to do it because I had to leave.
“I think that if I acted differently [after the split], everyone would have turned against me. But I certainly didn’t expect the support I got. I was waiting for it to all crumble.”
He added: “I wouldn’t have got the same exposure, but it isn’t exactly a great thing to have to see what you see, and read everyday.”
The singer's latest album Revelation went straight in at number three on the UK album chart last month.
