Tom Cruise turned motivational fitness coach during a long distance run with wife Katie Holmes and adopted son Connor.

The trio was snapped jogging along the Charles River from Boston - where the actor is currently shooting Wichita with Cameron Diaz - to Cambridge and back again.

As Katie started to flag, Tom offered encouragement by running backwards and taunting her to run "harder".

But it wasn't all tough love - the couple and daughter Suri enjoyed a tender moment during a gentle stroll through Boston.
