Twilight star Robert Pattinson has made his debut on social networking website Twitter.

The 23-year-old British actor posted an update on co-star Peter Facinelli’s account during filming on the third Twilight movie, Eclipse.

Pattinson was introduced to fans by Facinelli, who plays his father in the vampire franchise.

“Thanks a million. Here's Rob... Hi, it's Rob... My first and last tweet. My dad made me do it,” Pattinson wrote.

A number of fans have established hoax Twitter accounts claiming to be to Pattinson, but this is thought to be his first genuine appearance.

In reference to the fake accounts, Facinelli later wrote: “At least you know he doesn't have a Twiiter account.

“Lol. Down with the posers.”

The pair are filming Eclipse, which is due to be released next summer, in Vancouver.
