Oprah Winfrey has responded to Chris Brown after the singer claimed that her show about domestic violence earlier this year was like “a slap in my face”.

Winfrey dedicated a special edition of her chat show to "all the Rihannas of the world” after Brown assaulted the singer in February.

In an interview with People magazine, Brown said: "I commend Oprah on being like, 'This is a problem,' but it was a slap in my face.

“I did a lot of stuff for her, like going to Africa and performing for her school. She could have been more helpful, like, 'Okay, I'm going to help both of these people out.'"

But a spokesperson for Winfrey told TMZ: "Oprah is very appreciative that Chris Brown performed at her school but she takes domestic abuse very seriously.”

The spokesman added that Winfrey “hopes [Brown] gets the counselling he needs”.

Brown beat Rihanna outside a parked car in Los Angeles in February.

Last month, an LA judge sentenced him to five years' probation and 180 days community labour.

He has also been ordered to attend domestic violence counselling.
