Victoria Beckham is set to make a one-off appearance as a judge on American Idol, according to reports.

The former Spice Girls star will assume the seat vacated by Paula Abdul, who stepped down from the programme earlier this week.

According to the Daily Mail, Victoria will receive £155,000 for the special appearance, but has no plans to take up the role on a permanent basis.

Her spokesperson said: “Yes Victoria will be making a 'one off' appearance as a guest judge.”

The singer's appearance on the programme, which attracts an average 26million viewers an episode, will provide a huge boost to her US profile.

She is currently preparing to launch her latest clothing collection next month at New York fashion week.

As Entertainmentwise reported yesterday, Abdul quit American Idol amid reports that contract negotiations with the programme's bosses collapsed.

"With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return to American Idol,” she wrote on Twitter.
