Beyonce And Lady Gaga Square Off In Spectacular Style For VMAs - Pictures

Beyonce and Lady Gaga will battle it out for head diva at the MTV Video Music Awards 2009.

The pop poppets – both known for their energetic and extravagant live shows - are up for nine nominations each, and will go wig-to-wig in the Video of the Year, Best Female Video and Best Pop Video catagories.

Both ladies also square off in new catagory Best Legs, along with Rihanna, Katy Perry and Britney Spears.

In another canny double-header, rap rivals Eminem and Kanye West are up against each other in four categories, including Best Male Video and Best Hip-Hop Video.

Russell Brand is back on hosting duties after his headline-grabbing turn in 2008.

The VMAs will take place in New York on 13 September, and feature performances by Green Day, Taylor Swift, Pink and Muse.
