Stephenie Meyer is facing allegations that she borrowed parts of the storyline and dialogue of her fourth Twilight saga novel, Breaking Down, from another author.
Writer Jordan Scott has reportedly sent a cease and desist letter to Meyer's publisher, claiming that the bestselling conclusion to the vampire series bares a "striking and substantial similarity" to her own 2006 book, The Nocturne.
According to TMZ, the letter lists the following similaries:, among others:
- Both books contain a post-wedding sex scene
- Both books contain a scene about a woman who's sick because she's carrying a child with "evil powers"
- Both books contain a scene with the death of the main character's wife
Meyer's rep denies the plagiarism allegations, telling TMZ: "The claim that 'Breaking Dawn' by Stephenie Meyer somehow infringes on an alleged book by someone named Jordan Scott is completely without merit. Neither Stephenie Meyer nor her representatives had any knowledge of this writer or her supposed book prior to this claim."
