Peter Andre has insisted he is a good father after his estranged wife Katie Price appeared to question the singer's parenting skills in a recent interview.

The former glamour model said on GMTV last week that the couple's split had been a “good thing” for their children because Andre is “actually doing things for the kids and it’s really nice to see”.

Writing in his weekly New! magazine column, the singer said the claims were “downright insulting and untrue”.

Andre, who is taking legal action over Price's comments, added: "I have always been a hands-on dad and anyone who has ever watched our show will know this.

“Filming or no filming, I’m consistent and haven’t changed.”

Andre and Price have two children together – Junior, 4, and Princess Tiaamii, 1 - while the former glamour model has another child, Harvey, 7, by footballer Dwight Yorke.

The singer also responded to reports that Price had begun dating cagefighter Alex Reid in his weekly column.

He wrote: "Yawn! To be honest, I don’t really care if this is true or not. I’m so over it.”
