Paris Hilton has claimed Michael Jackson named his daughter, 11-year-old Paris Katherine, after her.

The socialite told Extra Jackson, who died last month, had become “best friends” with her mother after the pair went to school together.

"I grew up knowing Michael very well and when he had his daughter, he always loved the name Paris and grew up being an uncle to me," Hilton said.

"So he asked my mum if it was okay, and of course she said yes, and I think she's such a beautiful little girl and I'm proud we have the same name."

Jackson's daughter paid an emotional farewell to her late father at his memorial service in Los Angeles earlier this month.

The singer has two other children: Prince Michael, 12, and seven-year-old Prince Michael II, also known as Blanket.
