David Beckham Named Youngest Son After Tom Cruise?

Tom Cruise's influence on the personal and professional life of pal David Beckham should not be underestimated, according to a new book.

Whilst the friendship between their respective wives seems to have cooled over the past year, the Tom and David 'bromance' is apparently stronger than ever – and extends to the naming of the Beckhams' youngest son Cruz.

"I must admit, when [Victoria and I] met Tom, I remember turning around to Victoria and saying, 'Cruise is a great name, but we could spell it different,'" the footballer-turned-global brand told Grant Wahl, author of The Beckham Experiment (via NY Daily News.)

"And also, living in Spain, Cruz is spelled the way it is in Spanish. So that's why we got it."

As well as being nearly-neighours in Los Angeles, the Beckhams have shared representation (CAA) and a PR firm (Rogers & Cowan) with Tom.

The actor is also said to have recommended his physical therapist to David, and influenced the sports star's decision to take the L.A. Galaxy gig.

However, David reportedly draws the line at Scientology.
