Peter Andre has described his split from wife Katie Price last month as “hell”.

The singer told the Daily Mirror the last four weeks had been “the worst of my life” and revealed he was only now able to think about moving on.

Andre's comments come amid reports the couple attended marriage counselling classes shortly before their split.

The singer is said to have been the driving force behind the last ditch rescue attempt to save their marriage, and protect their three children.

“Yes, it was Pete who left Katie – but not until after he had done everything in his power to make the marriage work,” a source told the newspaper.

Andre is currently attempting to revive his music career during a promotional tour of China.

The singer, who was expected to perform to a television audience of 600million on the trip, said the positive reaction of his Chinese fans had given him new confidence.

“I never expected the attention I’ve been getting and I am so glad this is happening. I’ve only been here a couple of days but it’s already turned out better than I ever hoped,” he said.

“Finally, I am beginning to smile again. It’s not like I’m a bundle of joy now, but it’s getting better. I’m even cracking terrible jokes!”

Andre and Price, who met on the reality TV show I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here in 2004, have two children together – Junior, 3, and Princess Tiaamii, 1.

Price has another child, Harvey, 7, by footballer Dwight Yorke.
