Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have “finally” decided to go their separate ways after four years together, according to a US tabloid report.

According to The National Enquirer (so we'll be keeping an open mind on this one), the couple have called time on their “tumultuous” relationship – they just haven't gotten around to making their split public.

An insider tells the publication: “They will make it official. It looks like Brad will be shooting two movies in California and in the Amazon, while Angelina is retreating to their French chateau with the rest of the family.

“It’s an official split.”

Apparently, Cannes – which saw them put on a dazzling display of togetherness at the Inglourious Basterds premiere - was the last straw for the warring couple, whose mutual affection is said to have disappeared every time they were out of sight of the flashbulbs.

The source adds: “Brad and Angelina will make appearances together from time to time, and he’ll meet up with the kids when he can.

"But make no mistake, this is a major split.”
