Mel Gibson has confirmed that he and Russian Girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, are expecting their first child together.

The actor, who is currently divorcing his wife, Robyn, spoke about Oksana's pregnancy during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

"This is true," Mel replied, when asked if the couple were expecting a baby, before joking that the child's gender was “a human being”.

The confirmation follows widespread reports about 39-year-old Oksana's pregnancy in the US media.

Mel, 53, also spoke to the Leno about his divorce from his wife of 28 years during the interview.

The actor, who said he had done a “pretty good hatchet job” on their relationship, said the couple split three years ago following his drunk-driving arrest in Malibu.

Robyn Gibson formally filed for divorce in April, shortly after her estranged husband was pictured with an unknown woman – believed to be Oskana - on a beach in Costa Rica.

The couple have seven children together, with their last child, Thomas, being born in 1999.
