Kate Hudson is virtually unrecognisable as she takes a break from filming her new movie The Killer Inside Me.

The actress – who is better known as the pretty blonde in mediocre romantic comedies – has dyed her golden locks dark brown and had her hair styled into waves for the 50s-set crime thriller.

The normally stick-thin star also seems to have packed on a few extra pounds to play Amy Stanton, the schoolteacher girlfriend of a Texas sheriff who becomes a sociopath murderer.

The Killer Inside Me - which is currently shooting on location in Oklahoma City - also stars Casey Affleck and Jessica Alba.
