Katie Price has spoken of her devastation after husband Peter Andre asked for a divorce.
The former glamour model, also known as Jordan, said the couple's split was “not what I want”, but added that the decision was out of her hands.
The shock separation was confirmed yesterday by the couple's spokesperson. It marks the end of a whirlwind three-and-a-half year marriage.
Katie fled the country along with the couple's two children last night amid reports Peter had been left angry and upset by pictures of her with another man.
The images, which appeared in yesterday's Sun newspaper, are believed to have been taken at a nightclub last week.
Peter is quoted as telling the newspaper: “I’m not jealous of anybody until Katie is drunk. There’s nobody I feel threatened by when she’s sober.
“But if she’s drinking I know she’s capable of anything. The devil gets inside her and she’s a nightmare. I trust her when she’s sober but I don’t trust her when she’s drinking.”
The couple have enjoyed a high-profile marriage since their first met on the reality TV show I'm A Celebrity..Get Me Out Of Here in 2004.
Their relationship is currently the subject of an ITV2 reality show, Katie and Peter: Stateside.
In a statement, Katie, who has left her eldest son Harvey, 6, from a previous relationship at home, said: "Pete is the love of my life and my life.
"We have children together and I am devastated and disappointed by his decision to separate and divorce me, as I married him for life.
"This is not what I want and the decision has been taken out of my hands.
"I will not comment further or do any interviews regarding the separation but I will always love my Pete."
The couple last appeared in public together at the Soap Awards on Saturday.
A sokesperson has appealed for the media to respect the couple's privacy.
