Amy Winehouse has spoken for the first time about her life on the island of St Lucia.

The singer, who has been an on and off visitor to the Caribbean for the last five months, said she had made “friends for life” and “been inspired by my surroundings”.

Amy made the comments in a statement ahead of her proposed comeback show at St Lucia's Jazz Festival tonight.

She said it was an “honour” to be playing at the festival, adding that it was her way of thanking “an island and people that have been so welcoming to me".

But tonight's performance could be jeopardised by strong winds and rain which have been battering the island for the last three days.

The unsettled weather conditions led to the cancellation of last night's concerts, although Amy played an intimate gig at her hotel.

According to the BBC, the only indoor alternative available for tonight's show has already been booked.

In her statement to PA, the Rehab star said: "It is an honour to play the St Lucia jazz festival this year - since I first came to the island, I have been greeted with nothing but kindness and friendship, as well as incredible music and the most beautiful of settings, I have made friends for life and have been inspired by my surroundings."

Amy has been using her most recent stay in the Caribbean to record her third album.
