A stunt driver on the set of Nicholas Cage's new film has smashed through a window of a restaurant in Times Square, New York.

The accident took place shortly after 1am in the morning after the driver's Ferrari lost control and mounted the pavement.

One female pedestrian was knocked to the ground while a lamppost landed on another male bystander.

Both were treated in hospital in minor injuries before being released.

Traffic around the famous New York landmark had been halted so filming of Cage's latest movie, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, could take place.

Filming is due to continue on the movie, which is set in present day New York.
