John Mayer Denies New Girlfriend Reports

John Mayer has set the record straight about his relationship status, claiming to be single after splitting up with Jennifer Aniston last month.

Entertainmentwise previously reported on John's rumoured romance with 24-year-old wannabe actress Scheana Marie Jancan, who is said to have caught the singer's attention at a Hollywood party where she was waitressing.

John became visibly agitated when quizzed about his "new girlfriend" by paps, saying that if he were to cry single his "relationship" would be over in an instant.

"If I had a girlfriend, she would be incredibly offended by me saying, 'I don't have a girlfriend,'" John told X17Online.com after a kickboxing session in Santa Monica.

He added, "That's how you can be sure. I could say, 'I'm not with anybody.' That'd be a death wish if you were the woman.

"If you were the woman and you stepped out and said, 'I'm not with anybody, you'd have to go home and take a lashing for the next three weeks! So that's the proof."
