Lindsay Lohan's scarily skinny appearance is said to be a self destructive cry for attention, following her split from DJ Samantha Ronson.

The Mean Girl - who is reportedly on good terms with her lover after a tumultuous break-up - is causing concern amongst friends and family with her almost transparent frame.

A source tells People, "She is a self-destructive person.

"It's all part of her cry for attention. She wants Sam [Ronson, her ex-girlfriend] to see how bad she's hurting and she wants Hollywood to see her as a 'tortured artist' who is wasting away."

The source adds, "This is a symptom of something much bigger – a desperate need to be noticed."

And according to reports it seems to be working - the actress paid Sam a visit at her L.A. home on Thursday before leaving six hours later with a cheshire cat sized grin.
