Madonna's almost-adopted Malawain daughter Mercy was left devastated after a judge ruled against her adoption on Friday, according to reports.
The queen of pop flew home empty handed and heartbroken after her application to adopt the four-year-old was dismissed on the grounds that she hadn't resided in the country for 18 to 24 months.
Madonna's disappointment was also shared by little Mercy, who is allegedly already beginning to feel separation anxiety from her nearly-new family.
Orphanage boss Annie Chikhwaza tells The Sun, “It’s devastating for Mercy. She had bonded with her new family and was calling for Madonna, saying, ‘Where is my Mummy?’
“She couldn’t understand where Lola, David and Rocco had gone — she thought they were playing hide and seek. It broke my heart to see her crying out for David as they’d become inseparable.
“Madonna said she will do whatever it takes to get her back.”
Meanwhile, ex-husband Guy Ritchie has shocked onlookers and Madge herself by offering his support to the singer during such difficult times.
The source adds, “Madonna was incredibly touched. He’s been an unexpected source of strength.”
