Katie Holmes has shunned her usual stylish haircut for one that involves beads plaited into her hair.

In a look that you would expect daughter Suri to be sporting, the actress wore yellow, red, green and black beads in her hair whilst filming her new movie The Extra Man yesterday.

Tom Cruise's missus was seen laughing as she filmed on location in New York and got into the role of her free-spirited character.

Wearing baggy clothing and a woolly hat, the star joked and laughed in between takes, and beamed as she headed back to her trailer for a break.

Katie also filmed a romantic scene with co-star Paul Dano, which involved walking hand-in-hand outside the Russian Tea Room.
