Chris Brown is said to be building a case of self defence against Rihanna, following their altercation earlier this month.

The R&B singer - who was released on bail after turning himself into the police for inflicting "horrific injuries" on Rihanna - is reportedly planning to claim self defence in their upcoming court hearing.

A source tells Life & Style, "Chris is already building his case.

"He's saying she threw a phone at him, then hit him in the head and basically just lost it. He's saying she attacked him."

Criminal defence attorney Darren Kavinoky says, "Unless there's some indication that she was enraged to the point that she physically threatened him, I think he'd have a tough time with that defence.

"If it goes to court, ultimately it would be up to a jury to decide."

The court hearing, scheduled for March 5, is rumoured to be pushed back if not enough evidence is collated.
