Gwyneth Paltrow's Dowdy Makeunder

Gwyneth Paltrow's newly sexed-up image suffered a major setback yesterday when she stepped out in North London looking for all the world like a weather-beaten country wife.

The actress's outfit – wellies, a green mac and no make-up – was in keeping with the grim English weather as she left Gordan Ramsey's York and Albany restaurant after dining with a friend.

Gwyneth clearly wasn't ready for her close up and attempted to shield her ruddy complexion from photographers.

Her dowdy appearance was a far cry from the raunchy look she has cultivated over the past year during which time she has routinely showcased her perfect pins in thigh-skimming skirts and extravagant high heals.

Gwyneth attempted to shake off her wallflower reputation when she hit out at her critics in a recent interview.

She told Elle, “F*** the haters! I saw this blog of people writing horrible things about me and for a second your ego is so wounded.

“How could people hate me, my intentions or what I’m trying to do? I’m a good person and I’m trying to put good things into the world.

“I’m probably less square than people think. I never get drunk to the point of throwing up. But I get very talkative.”
