Mariah Carey looks unrecognisable in this pictures taken from her new movie Push. 

The singer - whose last foray onto the big screen was the notorious flop Glitter - plays a social worker in the gritty flick, which is an adaptation of the 1996 novel by Sapphire.

But these pictures of Mariah on set show the diva in a very different light - without her perfectly-groomed blonde hair and immaculate make-up.

Husband Nick Cannon - perhaps unsurprisingly - insists her lattest acting performance is a five-star affair.

"She blew me out the water," he told MTV.

"When you see Push, not only do you forget that's Mariah Carey, you might not even recognize it's Mariah Carey."

"It's one of those performances. She don't talk the same, she don't look the same - she just went in and did her thing."
