Lindsay Lohan has hit back at rumours surrounding her alleged breakup with Samantha Ronson, insisting that the couple are merely spending some time apart.

After a string of catfights over Christmas, the Mean Girl and her gal pal are said to be cooling things off in a bid to 'save' their romance.

“We never broke up,” Lindsay tells Life & Style.

“People don’t have to be together every second. It’s healthy to miss someone, and if you’re in it for the long run, it’s good to know that.”

An insider adds, “They needed space and time.

“They’ve been on top of each other with living and work and life. Lindsay’s now in a new house around the corner from Sam.

"It’s going to allow them some space.”

But it seems their relationship isn't as golden as Lindsay would have the world believe, after the actress allegedly posted cryptic messages on her Facebook wall.

The messages read: “Lindsay deserves the best and the truth,” and “Happiness and love are just a choice away.”
