Jennifer Love Hewitt and her actor fiance Ross McCall have called time on their three year romance - to the shock of family and friends.

The couple - who got engaged in 2007 - are said to be still on good terms but are understandably upset with the outcome of their relationship.

A source tells People, "They broke up over the holidays and have ended their engagement.

"They're both really sad about this. Even their friends are surprised; they seemed really happy. Everyone just wants the best for both of them."

Jennifer was reportedly excited about the pending ceremony and had been busy shedding those extra pounds to fit into her dress.

She said, "I'm getting ready to turn 30 and get married and all those things. This year was my year to try to glow from within and feel better."
