Doctor Who producers are reportedly keen on casting Lily Allen as the timelord's new assistant.

The Doctor - who will be played by new kid on the block, 26-year-old Matt Smith - has traditionally been accompanied on his time travels.

In recent series', he has had a number of companions, most notably Billie Piper's Rose, and Donna, played by comedienne Catherine Tate.

And bosses inexplicably feel that Lily has what it takes to be the new Doctor's special traveling companion: “We are looking for someone whose light can burn brightly,

"We would never cast anyone on the basis of their celebrity, but if Lily wanted to audition we would be delighted. It would be a lot of fun."
