Reports that Britney Spears has hooked up with Paris Hilton's ex-boyfriend Benji Madden have been branded “false” by the singer's rep.

A US magazine claimed that the pop princess had stepped out with the Good Charlotte rocker after he received the seal of approval from dad Jamie and manager Larry Rudolph – along with other potential suitors Chace Crawford, Michael Phelps and Jesse Metcalfe.

A source tells In Touch, "They’ve been on a few dates. They met once at The Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills for dinner in a hotel suite.

"She appears to like Benji a lot, and he seems to really like her.”

But Britney's rep, Holly Shakoor, has blasted the report.

She says, "The claims made by In Touch are completely false. There is not an ounce of truth to any of it."
