It was business as usual for Katie Holmes as she celebrated turning 30 yesterday.

The Dawson's Creek star spent her birthday afternoon pounding the streets of New York with daughter Suri while husband Tom Cruise was in California for the premiere of new film Valkyrie.

This week Tom - who spent the morning with his wife and daughter - revealed that he had a "special" surprise planned for Katie's big day.

“I’ve got some special things...that I have in store for her,” he said.

“It’s gonna be a great day for her.”

But in the evening it was back to work as she performed on stage in All My Sons at The Schoenfield Centre in New York.

Shame Tom couldn't organise a day off for his tired wife!
