Alexandra Burke Leaves Leona Lewis Trailing In Chart Race

X Factor winner Alexandra Burke will top the UK singles charts after her debut single Hallelujah became the fastest-selling single via download ever.

Alex's cover of the Leonard Cohen classic was released as a digital-download at midnight on Saturday, just hours after her 15 million viewers watched her triumph over fellow finalists JLS and Eoghon Quigg.

Although the North London lass faces challenges from songs by comedian Peter Kay, broadcaster Terry Wogan and former winner Leona Lewis, her single is all but assured to claim the coveted Christmas number one spot due to her exposure on the show.

A spokesman for HMV said: "The reality is that while they may sell in the tens of thousands, Alexandra will sell in the hundreds of thousands.”
