Tom Cruise showed off his Elvis-inspired dance moves last night on The Tonight Show.

The actor broke out into an impromptu hip-shaking and singing routine after he admitted to chat show host Jay Leno he had never sung on television.

"We should do that right now," he told Leno.

So Tom decided it was a good time to show off his music skills and sung a few verses of Blue Suede Shoes, awkwardly taping his foot while pulling an Elvis-esque face.

As the audience applauded his brief performance he then stood up and threw down a couple of Elvis moves.

Tom had earlier talked about a Christmas picture with daughter Suri, wife Katie Holmes and himself dressed as Santa.

"Mrs Claus is looking very hot," he quipped, referring to Katie.
