Zac Efron had a close shave recently after Ellen DeGeneres almost caught his hair in her clippers live on TV.

The High School Musical star squirmed in his chair as Ellen pulled out an electric razor and asked Zac if he had ever considered shaving off his legendary locks.

Ellen said, “I love your hair, but it seems to be a very big thing. There's a wig...a teenage wig!”

The TV host also used Zac's girlfriend Vanessa to try and persuade Zac to adorn the balding look.

“Vanessa was here a few days ago and she actually said she prefers it slicked back more with stuff in it, but then it's hard for her to put her hands...in your hair because it's too full of stuff," urged Ellen.

“But she prefers it slicked back just to let you know."
