Stars Get Political: The Latest Celebrity Trend?

Stars like Madonna, Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Aniston love to have opinions on stuff. They enjoy telling us civilians what to eat, who to wear, where to go, and even what to think. So it should come as no surprise that politics is the latest hot ticket in Hollywood.

An army of mouthy ’slebs have been spending much of their time over the last few months either tirelessly trying to assuage our voter apathy by posting Youtube virals (like Jessica Alba’s Muzzled campaign) - or donning t-shirts showing their support for their favourite US presidential candidate.

So who do the stars say we should vote for?

Well, Barack Obama is the ticket of choice for the A-list. In fact, a who's who of Hollywood’s biggest players are in support of his campaign: Brangelina, Madonna, ScaRy, Demi Moore & Ashton Kucher, Oprah…

It’s bad news for Republican McCain, however, whose own celebrity posse is decidedly lower-rent. The most famous person weighing-in on his team is Kelsey Grammar. Oh dear.

But are these celebrities genuinely interested in the election, or is this just another fashion bandwagon of self-promotion and to convince fans of social conscience?

Well, take a look at some of these pics and decide for yourselves.

Poll

Do you really think this celeb electioneering is sincere?

Yes, they're completely genuine and doing something worthwhile with their popularity.

Perhaps, but I question their need to be seen in one of those campaign T-shirts.

Not likely - I doubt they even know what any of the policies or agendas are.

No way - celebrities are vapid, needy exploitation junkies ready to jump any bandwagon quicker than you can say: 'Kabbalah'
