Britney Spears Mania Hits New York

Britney Spears was forced to cut short a shopping trip in New York yesterday after being confronted by a crowd of excitable fans.

The Piece Of Me singer was on her way to a jewellery store in the Big Apple's trendy SoHo neighbourhood but didn’t get a chance to buy anything after dozens of fans surrounded her.

Just moments after slipping out of her luxurious SUV, the star was pushed back into the vehicle by her worried security team who couldn't control the swarm of snappers and overzealous fans who were all competing to grab a photo of the star.

It had got around that Britney was due to make an appearance at the store so fans crowded in the street hoping to catch a glimpse of the singer. 

Britney seems to be on form for a comeback and is in the city to promote her latest single Womanizer.

She has admitted to a New York radio that she is "definitely" planning a world tour for 2009.
