John Mayer's split from Jennifer Aniston is reportedly providing inspiration for his new songs.

A U.S. publication claims that John's whiny lyrics at a recent gig in New York reflected his regret over the breakdown of their brief romance.

The crowd are said to have been convinced that his set was a tribute to his gorgeous ex, thanks to lyrics such as:

“Why you wanna break my heart again? Why am I going to let you try? When all we ever do is say goodbye."

"John's been putting everything that happened into his songs," a source tells US Weekly.

"He won't shut up about Jen. He talks about her all the time."

Meanwhile Jen's thoughts seem to be far from John.

She said recently, "My priority is my job...and doing it to the best of my ability. That's where I focus my attention."
