Issac Hayes, the man best known for Shaft and Chef in South Park, has died aged 65.

According to reports, the songwriter was rushed to Baptist East Hospital after receiving a call from Hayes' wife who found him lying near a treadmill in their home.

Steve Shular, public information officer for the Shelby County Sheriff's Office tells People: "The family had last seen him about noon. Family members had gone to the grocery store and left him (at) home.

"When the family came home around one, his wife's cousin found him lying on the floor in the basement near a treadmill. The treadmill was running, so it is believed that he had been working out."

And although the hospital is yet to determine a cause of death, it is believed the musician died of natural causes.

Shular adds: "There doesn't seem to be any foul play. We don't see anything suspicious about his death. There will be a further statement from the hospital about the cause of death."

Hayes is survived by his wife Adjowa and their child, as well as five other children from two previous marriages.

It has been a weekend full of tragedy. On Saturday, comedian Bernie Mac died as a result of pneumonia.
