New parents Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have expressed their delight at the birth of their daughter Sunday Rose, admitting that the experience has been “pure bliss”.

The country singer and his actress wife are doing "superbly well" with their new baby, who was born in Nashville, Tennessee last week.

The singer has thanked fans for their "beautiful notes and prayers", telling People he cannot wait for his concert on Saturday in Philadelphia, which will be his "first gig as a father!"

On his blog, Urban writes: "Like any of you who are parents yourselves, we're experiencing the pure bliss of welcoming her into our lives.

“We're all doing superbly well and we continue to be absolutely overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and well wishes we are receiving."
